This Smith Carbine was manufactured by the American Machine Works, Springfield, Massachusetts.

It has a 21 5⁄8 round barrel retaining 95% of its original blue finish with a minor bore.   The top locking bar has nearly all of its high polished blue finish.   The frame and hammer have very strong case colours and are unmarked.   The trigger guard has 90% of its original blue finish.   The stock and forearm have normal handler marks and retain all of their oiled finish.   The cartouches are very clear.   All markings are very good and the action is very crisp.

It would be hard to find a better Smith Carbine.
