This early 3rd model Navy revolver has the unusual feature of a beveled loading notch on the barrel and the small iron trigger guard and back strap, this did not appear on all "51" Navies until the late 3rd Models (A photo of a similar revolver is shown in the book 51 Colt Navies by Nathan L Swayze. Plate 14).
Manufactured in 1853 this revolver has the standard 7½ in barrel with a very good bore and retains over 90% of its original blue finish. The cylinder has a very good scene with the frame, hammer and loading lever showing light case hardened finish. The walnut grip is in excellent condition retaining all of its original finish and is numbered to the revolver, all serial numbers are matching including the barrel wedge, the revolver has a very good action.
