Smith Carbine

Serial Number 10426     .50 calibre

Patented by Gilbert Smith whose agents Poulteney and Trimble of Baltimore arranged for American Machine Works, Massachusetts and Mass Arms Chicoppe Falls to manufacture the carbine between 1861-1865. The US Government purchased nearly all of the 30,000 production. This example manufactured by American Machine Works is in very fine condition with the barrel retaining all of its original finish and a very good bore. The frame and hammer show good casehardened finish. The two-piece black walnut stock is in very good condition with clear cartouches, the barrel to frame lockup is very good.
