Designed and Patented by Colt's Assistant Factory Superintendent C.B. Richards c 1871 and assigned to the Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company. The First Model Colt Richards revolvers which were made as original breech-loading metallic cartridge guns were in serial numbers from 1 through to the high 5000's.
This fine example has the standard 8 in barrel with a clear address and fair bore, the cylinder has a good scene but lightly rolled, all serial and assembly numbers are matching. The revolver retains some original finish in the protected areas with a good action and cylinder lock up. The walnut grip is in good condition retaining most of its original varnish.
