Colt Model 1861 Special Rifle Musket

N.V.S.N    .58 calibre

Colt manufactured approximately 75,000 of these special muskets for the US Government between 1861 and 1865.

All metal parts where finished "in the white" with the rear sight blued, the 40 inch barrel was rifled in 58 calibre, no serial numbers were used but the date of manufacture is stamped on the lock plate and the eagle emblem is marked on the bolster with Government inspectors marks on many parts.

This example is in very good condition with all clear markings, a good bore and action. The walnut stock is in very good condition with only a few handling marks.
